Summer Wrap Up

September 01, 2017

The traditional Summer season is coming to a close, and although the days will still be warm for a few weeks longer, we start looking ahead towards colder months. But before the return to our regular nine-to-fives, we want to take some time to look back on what we enjoyed most from this past summer. Here’s a "summery" of some of our favorite outfits and items from this season.

Lightweight Wools

We dedicated a lot of time to sourcing some lighter weight wools in the past year. The result is a collection of incredible fresco’s, plain weaves, and high-twist cloths from reputable mills such as Vitale Barberis Canonico and Holland & Sherry. Though the terminology for the cloth is seemingly interchangeable (Holland & Sherry calls their collection “Crispaire"), the properties are analogous. A porous weave allows the cloth to breathe more easily. Moreover, the thicker individual weave strands result in a textured, dry hand that makes the cloth highly resistant to wrinkles throughout its wear. This makes it not only ideal for summer time but for year round suiting as well.

Loafers

Whether calfskin or nubuck (suede), the loafer became the most indispensable shoe during these warmer months. Commonly perceived as more casual shoe, the loafer works well with a variety of outfits as we’ve demonstrated before. Warm days expect you ditch long socks and allow those ankles to breath (we’re not saying you go sockless - we recommend you wear no-show socks).

Popovers

We were proud to introduce popovers this year in our product offering. They straddle the line between luxury and casual. You’ll find that we wear ours most often under a blazer or sport coat. A structured collar helps the popover sit nicely under any jacket. Even so, they can be worn without a jacket and paired with cotton trousers or denim jeans and a pair of sneakers. They are incredibly comfortable, especially when made with Loro Piana’s Jersey collection. Most importantly, we offer them as part of our made-to-measure program so that they can be made to your specifications.

There you have it! A round up of our favorite looks and items from the past few months. We look forward to the coming Fall and Winter seasons and the flannel and cashmere that it will bring. Keep an eye out for what's coming in the next few months.

The history of Fox Umbrellas began over 140 years ago. The company has since been the pinnacle of innovation, quality, and craftsmanship. Though not the first to produce steel wire ribbing for the umbrella, Samuel Fox improved and developed the concept. In doing so, Fox Umbrellas produced the most satisfactory model for steel ribbing and changed the face of the industry entirely.

You already own a navy or gray suit, or maybe even both; so what’s next? Let's talk about adding a brown suit to your collection. Though we understand the hesitancy in breaking away from the basics, we can assure you that a brown suit will do just as much work as any grey suit or a navy suit currently in your wardrobe. A brown suit is a versatile year round garment that transitions perfectly from summer to fall, winter to spring.
