Alexander Johnston established the Elgin mill on the banks of the river Lossie in 1797, making it Scotland’s second oldest family business. Johnstons operates the only vertical mill in Scotland, producing cloth from the raw wool stages all the way through to finished products. Experience and tradition have been passed down through generations of craftspeople, preserving a history that is represented in the products they make today in both the Elgin and Hawick mills. Johnstons specializes in tweeds, cashmere, and other woolen fabrics, ideal for jackets and coats.
